As a large amount of C4 hydrocarbons are produced as by-products inpetroleumrefining and petrochemical processes, the methods for rational utilizationof these by-products andthe development of highly processed products have drawnwide concern. Before the 1980s,the C4 by-productoffluid catalytic cracking(FCC)inthe process ofpetroleum refining was mainly used to produce alkylated gasolineand polymerization gasoline,as well asfuel for industrial boilers and civil use;Inaddition to the butadien fractionused as synthetic rubber feedstock, the C4 fractionof petrochemical steam pyrolysis isalsoused as industrial anddomestic fuel.Inrecent years, the technology of synthesizing propylene oxide (PO)from high-purityisobutane asfeedstock, through oxidation reaction and synthesis with propylene, along with the by-product of tert-butanol,has become akey process route for thepreparation of PO.In order to obtain isobutane with a higher purity(≥99.9%wt),the C4 product after alkene separation must be deeply and fully hydrogenated toensure that the olefin content in the hydrogenated C4 isless than 50 ppm and thesulfur content is less than 0.5 ppm.
